This year marks a very special milestone for Hamilton Civic Choir: 80 years of singing!
To celebrate, we invite you to join us for Tiakina Te Reo Waiata – Keeping the Song Alive, a concert celebrating the music, memories and people that have shaped the Choir throughout its long history.
Since 1946, Hamilton Civic Choir has shared the thrill of live choral music with audiences in Hamilton and beyond. From our early years to performances on international stages, including the World Choir Games in Auckland in 2024, the Choir continues to evolve while keeping its love of choral singing at its heart.
Our 80th anniversary concert brings together some of our favourite music from across the centuries. The programme spans repertoire from the 1800s to the present day, featuring composers including Brahms, Bruckner, Mendelssohn, Peter Anglea, Ola Gjeilo and Stroope, alongside music by New Zealand composers Robert Wiremu and Takerei Komene.
With around 60 choristers spanning a 50-year age range, and music sung in multiple languages, the concert is a celebration not only of the repertoire we have inherited, but of the way choral music continues to grow and change.
Under the baton of Elise Bradley MNZM, with piano accompaniment by Francis Cowan, we look forward to sharing an evening that reflects where Hamilton Civic Choir has come from — and where we are going next.
And the celebrations don’t end with the final note! Following the concert, we’ll continue the evening with cake, a piano bar and fundraising activities, including a silent auction, raffle and the sale of musical notes. Once all the notes have been sold, they will come together to reveal the final song of the evening!
Whether you’ve been following Hamilton Civic Choir for years, are discovering us for the first time, or simply love live choral music, we’d love to celebrate this milestone with you.
