The Hamilton Civic Choir and Orchestras Central are joining forces this December to present Handel’s Messiah. This famous Christmas oratorio was composed in 1741 by George Frederic Handel, and it is one of the best known and loved choral works in Western music.
It tells the whole story of Christ from the early prophecies of His coming to His birth, death, and resurrection. The story is told through solo pieces and choruses, including the well-known; “For unto us a child is born”, “All we like sheep have gone astray” and of course the beloved “Hallelujah Chorus”.
Our soloists for this performance are all taken from the talented ranks of the Civic Choir, and we are delighted to be singing with Hannah Bryant as our soprano, Cecily Shaw as mezzo soprano, Kolitha Jayatunge as tenor and Aidan Phillips as bass.
“We are very excited to be collaborating with Orchestras Central to put on a splendid performance such as the Messiah, especially at a time when communities are trying to come together following the effects of the global pandemic” says Civic Choir Chair, Kolitha Jayatunge.
We warmly invite you to come along and enjoy a Christmas treat at St Peter’s Cathedral.
