With just days to go, we warmly invite you to a very special evening of music, community, and purpose.
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Hamilton Civic Choir, we are joining forces with the St Peter’s Cathedral Choir for a memorable fundraising concert in support of the Cathedral’s earthquake strengthening project.
Supporting a treasured Waikato taonga
Perched on the hill of Pukerangiora, St Peter’s Cathedral stands on land sacred to the people of Tainui, particularly Ngāti Wairere. For over a century, it has been a place of prayer, music, and gathering.
Now, 110 years on, this cherished space requires strengthening to ensure it continues to serve the community for generations to come. This project is about more than reinforcing a building — it is about safeguarding a taonga of deep cultural, spiritual, and musical significance.
A programme to inspire
The concert will feature the much-loved Gabriel Fauré – Requiem, a work of profound beauty and reflection.
We are delighted to showcase:
- Gabriella Schuitemaker (soprano, Cathedral Choir)
- Robert Abbel (baritone, Hamilton Civic Choir)
- Organ accompaniment by Dr Rachael Griffiths-Hughes and Elise Bradley MNZM
In addition to this feature work, both choirs will perform:
- “Here is the River” – Fergus Byett
- “Kyrie” from Haydn’s Nelson Mass
- “A Star Shall Rise Out of Jacob” – Mendelssohn
- “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing” – Vaughan Williams
Enjoy also a stunning organ solo — Theme and Variations by Hendrik Andriessen, performed by Cathedral organist Anne Cleaver.
